QUALICUM BEACH, CANADA.
If you’ve been looking to open your mind to new ways of seeing, thinking, and living that dramatically improves your life — then this teacher training is definitely for you. Over the course of 28 days, students will be learning about the original teachings of pranayama in a way that is practical, so that it helps to improve every area in their life; from establishing greater control over the use of your mind, your breath, your body, and your 24/hour day, to your entire life trajectory.
CURRICULUM: This training presents the original teachings of pranayama through the ageless methodology of Satsang and Sadhana.
Satsang being a process of interactive discussion, where conversation plays out over various topics. Think of satsang as an outer-light that arouses your own, inner-personal intelligence, culturing your insight and inspiring you with the flame of personal motivation so that you can be your own source of liberation. And sadhana being an efficient method of physical and mental self-effort, with the intention of washing away personal limitations and building the necessary character to see ones self and existence as it truly is.
Think of the trainings curriculum like this: similarly to a bird that uses both wings to fly through the sky, likewise, the curriculum of this training models the original teaching methodology of the rishis, balancing the use of satsang (knowledge) and sadhana (action) in a way that enables the student to soar through the skies of their own personal liberation. You see, knowledge represents the: “How” will I do it. Action represents the: “What” will I do. And personal liberation represents the: “Where” will I go.
So whether you plan on becoming a teacher, developing your own personal practice, or refining your comprehensive knowledge towards liberation… this teacher training program will provide you with all the tools you need in developing as a strong, self-empowered individual, so that you can properly, safely, responsibly, and skillfully help this world, yourself, and others with confidence.
MORNING SADHANA — 11:30am-1:30pm: Every morning will begin with a two-hour practice. The intention of morning sadhana, is for students to experience the traditional rishi practice of tapasya, which is the most effective way to generate the necessary inner-fire to burn away one’s latent karmas, open their mental channels, and clean out the physical body so that the flow of life can move about more freely.
AFTERNOON BREAK — 1:30pm-2:00pm: After morning sadhana, students will have a little break to journal, eat, and relax. It is advised students bring lunches and proper hydration for the day.
PRACTICE OVERVIEW — 2:00pm-3:00pm: After a short break, our afternoons together will begin with an integrative discussion on how daily project assignments, course requirements, and home practices are going, followed by an informative and clinical overview of your morning sadhana in the studio.
TEACHING PRACTICUMS — 3:00pm-3:30pm: After our discussion, students will begin their 1-on-1, 1-on-2, and 1-on-3 teaching practicums, in which they'll be pairing up with each other. These practice teaching practicums are rewarding resources that will assist in developing your personal confidence, which will not only radically affect your teaching abilities, but will also instil greater integrity in how you direct and guide yourself through your own personal practice.
SATSANG — 3:30pm-5:00pm: Practicums will then be followed by our afternoon satsang, which are inspiring talks that engage students into enlightening discussions related to better understanding the Person Complex and its role in the world appearance through the rishi path. In these satsangs, students will learn about pranayama, its roots and intent, along with the ‘what’ and the ‘how’ and the ‘why’. Conversations will also surround the topic concerning the the source and reality of this world, how it arises, and how to live in perfect equanimity with it.
EVENING SADHANA — 5:00pm-5:30pm: To finish off the day, students will be led through one last 30 minute practice. These practices are designed to mimic each students home practice, but in a format that is guided. The intent of these 30 minute practices is to help assist and correct any challenges, all while revealing just how strong and rewarding a 30 minute practice can be.
"Breathing is the thread that weaves together the fabric of the mind, and the One true source which influences the rise of Life in the body." In week one, students will be closely examining the fundamentals of breathing, as they document and study the quality and capacity of their current respiratory state. Through simple exercises, students will learn how to correct their breathing, as well as teachings that will reveal how their breath is intimately connected to all bodily functions and the essential, primary source that influences and sustains the rise of life in the body. Starting in week one, students will also be pairing up as they begin their 1-on-1 teaching practicums.
"The most perfect self-control is to obtain control over how the mind observes, comprehends, and responds to the informational stimulus of the senses." In week two, students will be learning how to refine and perfect the use of their experiential capacities through the instillment of vitality-management practices. These teachings will employ proper use in learning how to measure the percentage of vitality in the body, as well as determine where and how vitality is leaking from the body. The ultimate goal of week two is for students to become incredibly refined and heightened in how they directly experience their inward & outward environment through the proper retainment of life-energy and the sustainable use of it.
"Learning is the unspoken admittance of not knowing. Not knowing is the wellspring of real knowledge. And real knowledge is wisdom which ends all multiplicities." In week three, students will be closely examining the fundamentals of how learning actually occurs, so that they can refine and strategically enhance their capacity to personally develop and perpetually evolve their physiological, psychological, and spiritual state. Through the employment of proper exercises and teachings, students will personally experience the secretive wellspring of pranic knowledge and learn why it's considered as the highest, most purest, most intimate form of education.
"Actions are driven by the influence of the senses. But if at any time the mind is unsteadied, our actions will be bound by impulse." In week four, students will be learning about the nature of action and how to refine and perfect the use of their expressive capacities, enhancing how they communicate, move, and sustainably occupy the life-energy that goes into personality-embodiment. A large focus in week four will also be centred around exploring crucial teaching components on how to responsibly present and communicate the fundamentals of pranayama through philosophy, practice, and personal support... with intent on making the teachings accessible to all levels and age groups.
This teacher training is only for students who are truly willing to learn, to be receptive, and to trust in the guidance that is being shared. If you’re seeking out only a certificate, or if you’re unable to accept the presentation of pranayama through the ageless methodology of satsang and sadhana, then this teacher training may not be for you. With the successful completion of our 500 hour Pranayama Teacher Training Program (full attendance, completion of assignments, practicum classes, and exam submissions), students will be awarded with a Pranayama Sadhana, School of Pranic Studies Certificate of Completion, which reflects their incredible devotion, studies, and commitment to the practice. As a classical school of yoga, we respectfully withdraw from associating with any and all self-appointed and/or regulatory bodies. This includes Yoga Alliance.
TRAINING MANUAL: The manual for our teacher training is very unique, in that after each training it is personally revised, rewritten, and extensively added upon by Engel, in order to correctly reflect his personal studies and current understanding of pranayama. As of this training, the manual enters its 11th full revision.
Being an important part of this training, the manual describes, reflects, and details the undocumented and unspoken tradition of pranayama. And due to this, prior to receiving their manual on day 1, students are required to personally sign an agreement waiver that essentially states, only those who complete the entire training are eligible to keep a copy of the teacher training manual. All students will receive their training manual (physical copy) on day 1 and will be required to cover the printing costs ($10).
STUDY MATERIAL: On the 1st day of the training, all students will receive their required text books (2 books) and will be required to cover the printing costs ($10 per book).
PS. It is advised that each student brings a notebook and pen for daily note taking. Also, satsang from each day of the training will be digitally recorded and made available for study. Morning and afternoon practices and practicums will not be recorded.
